Boundary effects on dynamic centrifuge testing of onshore wind turbines on liquefiable soils

Centrifuge modelling is an effective tool to assess the response of reduced-scale structures subjected earthquakes under increased gravity. Space limitations, however, force model be contained within relatively small boxes, whose boundaries may affect seismic performance structure consideration. In this paper, influence proximity equivalent shear beam (ESB) container during dynamic centrifuge tests onshore wind turbine resting on liquefiable soils evaluated. To end, numerical ESB box was implemented in finite-element framework OpenSees, replicate results observed experiment. The hydraulic and mechanical soil parameters were calibrated against far-field only. From calibration, raft foundation turned out good agreement with experimental for a input capable triggering liquefaction. A larger model, where do not play any role, then built, compare its outcomes those thus allowing effect assessed.
